National Events, Winter, 2007

The following are some of the events planned for the Australian Winter 2007:

  •  The New South Wales Division will host a luncheon to celebrate The Queen’s Birthday on 7 June in the Cello Restaurant, Castlereagh Inn, Castlereagh Street, and Sydney. Details are available from the National Office.
  •  The Convener of the Victorian Division of ACM, Mr. Brett Hogan, will host a dinner in Melbourne on 8 June 2007 to celebrate the Queen’s Birthday. The guest speaker is the Hon. Tony Abbott, HM Federal Minister for Health, who will launch in Melbourne ACM’s recent monograph on the Australian Crown for which he wrote the foreword. Details are available from Mr. Hogan or through the National Office.
  • .An interview with Professor Flint on the subject of The Queen's Birthday. will be aired on Sunday 10th June 2007 at 9am on Sydney radio station S2RDJ FM - 88.1fm. It is also rebroadcast by selected community stations through out Australia
  •  The Chairman of the Council of United Commonwealth Societies of Tasmania, Mr. R.A. Watson advises that the Council will celebrate The Queen’s Birthday with a luncheon in the presence of their Patron, His Excellency, the Hon William Cox AC, RFD, ED, the Governor of Tasmania on Monday, 18th June 2007, at 12noon for 12.30pm at the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, Marieville Esplanade, Sandy Bay, 7005. The dress is lounge suit or uniform, and the cost is $42.00 per person. Those wishing to attend should send details, including any special dietary requirements, to “ The Council of United Commonwealth Societies of Tasmania” to their respective Society Secretary on or before Monday, 11th June 2007.   •  A session on the subject, “The Crown in Australia”, is included in the programme for the nineteenth conference of The Samuel Griffith Society to be held at the Bayview Hotel, 6 Queen’s Road, Melbourne on 17-19 August, 2007. The Society is the nation’s leading federalist organization, dedicated to the promotion of discussion of constitutional matters through the articulation of a clear position in support of decentralisation of power through the renewal of our federal structure; and to the defence of the great virtues of the present Constitution against those who would undermine it in order to supplant it with a unitary state.
  •  The speakers at the session on Sunday, 19 August will be Dr Ann Twomey, whose paper will is entitled “The Queen of Australia’ and Mr. Michael Manetta, who will speak to his paper” Sovereignty in the Australian Federation.” The session will be chaired by Professor David Flint. Other session will be on Work Choices and the Federation, Federalism in a Centralist Environment, a Bill of Rights and The Aboriginal Question. For contact details, consult the Society site,
  •  The Convener of the Victorian Division, Mr. Brett Hogan, will host a luncheon in Melbourne on 20 August. The guest speaker will be Dr. Ann Twomey, the author of a book which has crated a bombshell in constitutional circles, “ The Chameleon Crown: The Queen and Her Australian Ministers.” Details will be sent out in good time to Victorian supporters.
  •  The Hon. Dr. Brendan Nelson, HM Federal Minister for Defence will formally open the 2007 ACM National Conference in Sydney in the morning of Saturday 25 August, 2007. The National Conference, on 24-25 August, 2007 will be our eighth since the Australian people voted to retain our constitutional system in 1999. A brochure is in preparation and will be sent out nationally in due course.
