Speaking at a special dinner in South Australia to celebrate Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee, Mr. Kirby recognised the special duty The Crown owes to the indigenous people of Australia.  He then noted what a remarkable person and great professional The Queen is.

"who amongst us will ever forget the scene at the Olympic games of the Queen apparently coming into the Olympic games out of a helicopter," he said.

Mr. Kirby's address was divided into three parts:

1. His own life and how he became convinced of the merits of the system of constitutional monarchy.
2. The 1999 referendum.
3. The Commonwealth of Nations and the its headship.
