The next republican push will hardly be worth it, suggests prominent Fairfax and ABC commentator and author David Maher.

The ABC Insiders programme (11/10) always ends with the three journalists having the opportunity to make some observation or prediction.

David Maher’s observation on 11 October was telling. (It is about  4.20 minutes into the last video on the site.)

“What a strange country we are. Our politics are torn to pieces around an ETS which is barely better than nothing. Then there’s a proposed Human Rights Act again barely better than nothing. Down the track there’s the proposition t of another brawl over the republic on a model which is actually again something barely better than nothing.
