The ACM luncheon at Parliament House Sydney on Friday 29 April 2011 to celebrate the Royal Wedding was very well attended. Other functions were held in Melbourne , Brisbane and Canberra as well as functions arranged by supporters and many Australians across the country, with about 7 million people watching the broadcast from London.

In lively and witty address, the Hon. Diana Fisher recalled her experiences in reporting and researching a series of Royal Weddings.

The MC Jai Martinkovits invited Ms. Fisher and the Parliamentary Host, the Minister for Fair Trading the Hon Anthony Roberts to cut the celebratory wedding cake.

Before that a prayer was offered by the Rev Michael Griffin for the marriage, the National and Royal Anthems sung accompanied at the grand piano by Richard Morgan, Grace was said by the Rev Fred Nile and  Peter Cavanagh led the assembly in offering toasts  to The Queen and to Prince William and Catherine Middleton.

While enjoying an excellent three course meal, diners were entertained with videos and photographs of Royal Occasions beamed across several screens recently installed in the Strangers Room.

The assembly heard an assurance from the Premier the Hon Barry O’Farrell, conveyed by the Rev. Fred Nile that the Royal Portraits would be restored to their place of honour in the room.

Professor David Flint gave an  update on the state of ACM’s campaign “...to  preserve, to protect and to defend our heritage: our Australian constitutional system, the role of the Australian Crown in our system, and our Flag.”

In particular he reported on polling trends since the referendum, and the “timebomb ”  for the republicans, the lack of interest in and support for a republic among the young. He also drew attention to solid evidence which demonstrate beyond doubt that the monarchist core is far more dedicated and interested than the smaller republican elite.

It was a day of great joy for all those who attended, as it was for most of the seven million Australians who watched the wedding.
