The car damaged when the Prince of Wales was caught up in violent student protests will take Kate Middleton to Westminster Abbey on her wedding day, reported Ursula Errington from the London based 24 hour news service, Sky News (22/3)

The following videos on the car and the coach are from ITN News, London

Buckingham Palace said it should be ready in time for the ceremony on April 29 as the damage caused by protesters in December was not extensive and repairs are purely aesthetic.

"It's undergoing a kind of 60 minute makeover at the moment," said Alex Garty, transport manager at the Royal Mews.

...Miss Catherine Middleton..

Miss Catherine Middleton will arrive at Westminster Abbey in the car but will leave for Buckingham Palace in a state horse-drawn Landau carriage.

Ms. Errington says it was made in 1902 for King Edward VII who wanted something bigger and better than anything Queen Victoria had and is the largest carriage in the Royal collection.

Contingency plans have been put in place for every eventuality, she reports.

...The Glass Coach...

If the weather is wet, the newlyweds will travel to Buckingham Palace in The Glass Coach, a stunning 1881 claret and black town coach, originally purchased for the coronation of George V.
Ms. Errington says that the small vehicle has been problematic for brides in the past though.

It was said to have caused Lady Diana Spencer's vast wedding dress to crumple badly when she used it to get to Westminster Abbey for her trip up the aisle in 1981.

According to senior carriage restorer, Martin Oates, it is not unusual for brides to have a dry run, practising getting in and out of it to avoid embarassing stumbles as billions worldwide watch proceedings.

State cars will also be on hand in case of mishaps with the traditional carriages, reports Ms. Errington.

The need for back-up vehicles creates hundreds of hours of work for those who prepare them, with the potential that many of the vehicles won't even leave the garage on the day.

......Prince Harry...

Prince Harry and the bridesmaids will travel in the much plainer Ascot Landau, behind his brother's vehicle.Maid-of-honour, Ms. Pippa Middleton, will be in an identical carriage with the page boys.

....The Queen’s procession...

A second procession led by Her Majesty the Queen, in a carriage pulled by grey horses, will make for quite a sight along the route, which is expected to be lined by tens of thousands of well-wishers.

Ms. Errington reports that the noise is something the Royal Equerry, Colonel Toby Brown, is concerned about and forms the basis of the decision over which horses to use.

"When you are in it, you don't really notice it, you are concentrating so hard on what you are doing, but for those participating for the first time it can be quite a shock," he said.

Although Kate Middleton's immediate family and senior royals will benefit from the unique and historical royal fleet on the day, both engine and equine powered, all the other guests will have to endure a much more humble form of transport.

Minibuses will be used to ferry foreign heads of state and junior royals from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace, says Ms. Errington.
