Prince William of Wales KG FRS, William Arthur Philip Louis was born on 21 June 1982. He is the elder son of Charles, Prince of Wales, and Diana, Princess of Wales, and grandson of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

He is second in the line of succession, behind his father, to the thrones of Australia, Canada New Zealand, the United Kingdom and 12 other  independent states.

After graduating with a Master of Arts degree from the University of St Andrews, and spending parts of a gap year in Chile, Belize, and countries in Africa, he volunteered for service in the armed forces.

He was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Blues and Royals regiment of the Household Cavalry,  serving with his brother Prince Harry.
He then earned his wings by completing pilot training at Royal Air Force College Cranwell, transferring to the Royal Air Force in 2009.

Prince William was promoted to Flight Lieutenant and underwent helicopter flying training and completed  generic and special-to-type helicopter training.
He is now at RAF Valley on No. 22 Squadron performing co-pilot duties on the Sea King search and rescue helicopter.

The Duchess of Cambridge is pregnant again, Kensington Palace announced this morning, according to reports in London confirmed by Kensington Palace.

Kate, 32, whose son, Prince George is just a year old, is expecting her second baby with husband Prince William next year.

The Daily Mail reports that the  Duchess is once again suffering from the debilitating condition hyperemesis gravidarum, which causes extreme sickness in pregnant women

Happy Birthday to Prince William Duke of Cambridge, who turned 32 on 21 June, 2008. For his birthday The Queen has given him access to a leased Agusta A109S Grand helicopter, according to Kirsty McCormack from the London Daily Express.

It will also be used to transport other members of the Royal Family.

 ...no cost to taxpayers....

Before republicans make yet another false claim, British taxpayers will pay nothing. Nothing. The rent will be paid for by The Queen from the Sovereign Grant. This is the fancy name for what is left of the income from the Crown Estate, a portfolio of properties and other investments.

The Queen in effect pays a super tax on the Crown Estate income of around 85% - the only person in the country who pays this special high rate. ( see the section on Royal Finances on our site)

As for the helicopter, Kirsty McCormack says Prince William probably can't wait to take it out for a spin, but point out it's unlikely the qualified helicopter pilot will actually be flying the helicopter which was built in 2008 and has had no previous owners.

She explains that with William now being a father, the helicopter will be a great way for him and his wife Kate to nip between official engagements and still be able to spend quality time with their son Prince George.

 ...other uses...

The helicopter – which is manufactured by Anglo-Italian company AgustaWestland – will also be used to transport other members of the Royal Family too.

"It has been leased for a fixed number of hours per year," a spokesman for the Queen told the Express.

"It has been leased in this way because it offers good value for money and because it provides for better safety and security than taking a diverse number of short term leases."

The aircraft will be paid for by the Sovereign Grant – public funds given to the Monarch by the Government every year - and will be based alongside the Queen's other private helicopter at RAF Odiham in Hampshire.

"The word is that this new chopper will be used mostly for William and Kate, although other family members can use it too," a royal source explained.

"But with William and Kate stepping up their official duties in the next few years it is expected they will spend a lot of time in it.

"At the moment the Queen has her helicopter which is used by other royals but sometimes there is also a need to hire a different aircraft."

Incoming Governor-General Peter Cosgrove has let slip that Prince George will travel to Australia with his parents William and Kate in April and the family will visit Sydney and Canberra, according to The Australian  20 February 2014.

The former defence chief met the Queen at Buckingham Palace ahead of officially becoming her representative in late March.

The two had a wideranging discussion about Australia and also the much-anticipated trip Down Under.

...interview....

''It's going to be a very welcome visit,” General Cosgrove told reporters afterwards.''They'll bring with them Prince George the little one. They'll be in Sydney and then in Canberra after their sojourn in New Zealand.”

Immediately asked if he'd inadvertently let slip that Prince George was definitely heading Down Under, the former defence chief back-peddled somewhat.

I hope he's coming,” he said.“the Governor-General.“I don't know — I'm not yet the Governor-General.

“I think every Aussie who likes the idea of royal couples having their children with them on tour will hope that's the case, but let's wait and see.”

In announcing the Australian and New Zealand tour in December, the palace said it was anticipated Prince George would accompany the Duke and Duchess “but a decision will be made in due course”.

Photo: Prince William and Prince Harry worked a long shift with other service personnel helping flood-hit U.K. villagers protect their homes, unloading sandbags alongside soldiers in the River Thames village of Datchet. The princes are not the only royals helping out. Their grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, has sent feed and bedding from the royal farms at Windsor to U.K. farmers whose land has been inundated.

Princes William and Harry made an unannounced visit to a flood-hit village in Berkshire, to help colleagues from the Armed Forces shore up flood defences, volunteering from 6AM alongside the Household Cavalry on Friday morning in Datchet, Berkshire.

Kensington Palace said: "The Princes wanted to do their bit to help in a private capacity.
"The most appropriate way was through the Armed Forces relief effort."

Unite for wildlife Print E-mail
Prince William & Catherine
Written by ACM
Sunday, 09 February 2014

Our two future kings, Prince Charles and Prince William. have made it their mission to save elephants, rhino and other animals from extinction, and they have persuaded David Cameron to host a two-day conference in London, which will be attended by ministers from countries that contribute to the £6 billion trade in ivory, rhino horn and other banned products.

The Prince and the Duke have recorded a video, which will be shown at the conference and released on YouTube, in which the Duke declares: “We have to be the generation that stopped the illegal wildlife trade and secured the future of these magnificent animals and their habitats, for if we fail it will be too late.”

The Duke, positioned on his father’s right, invokes the birth of his own son, Prince George, to explain his passion for saving wildlife.

“This year, I have become even more devoted to protecting the resources of the earth for not only my own son, but for the other children of his generation to enjoy,” he says.

They hope that the video will be seen in China, Vietnam and other countries where demand for banned animal products leads to what the Prince says are “unprecedented levels of killing” by poachers.

The video ends with the Prince and the Duke saying “Let’s unite for wildlife” in Mandarin, Arabic, Spanish, Swahili and Vietnamese.
