Prince William of Wales KG FRS, William Arthur Philip Louis was born on 21 June 1982.He is the elder son of Charles, Prince of Wales, and Diana, Princess of Wales, and grandson of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
He is second in the line of succession, behind his father, to the thrones of Australia, Canada New Zealand, the United Kingdom and 12 other independent states.
After graduating with a Master of Arts degree from the University of St Andrews, and spending parts of a gap year in Chile, Belize, and countries in Africa, he volunteered for service in the armed forces.

He was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Blues and Royals regiment of the Household Cavalry, serving with his brother Prince Harry. He then earned his wings by completing pilot training at Royal Air Force College Cranwell, transferring to the Royal Air Force in 2009.
Prince William was promoted to Flight Lieutenant and underwent helicopter flying training and completed generic and special-to-type helicopter training.He is now at RAF Valley on No. 22 Squadron performing co-pilot duties on the Sea King search and rescue helicopter.

The Duke of Cambridge has called on the public to continue their support of injured British servicemen and women. Prince William made the heartfelt plea as he and Prince Harry officially opened four Help for Heroes Recovery centres during a visit to Tedworth House, Tidworth, Wiltshire.
"When Harry and I, like so many other young men and women, first donned our Help for Heroes wristbands - only six years ago - not even we, as servicemen, could have guessed the scale of the challenges ahead," William said.
"In 2007 the nation was beginning to wake up to the reality of the debt we owed to its wounded and sick servicemen returning from overseas.
"The British public's unprecedented response to the likes of Help for Heroes, the Royal British Legion and countless other service charities was a heartfelt response to that sense of debt felt by countless tens of thousands of people, in fact the whole nation, who wanted to show support and gratitude."

Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, will appear in Helicopter Rescue which follows the Search and Rescue team at the Prince's base at RAF Valley on Anglesey.
BBC Wales was given exclusive access to the teams at Prince William's base of RAF Valley on Anglesey for the programme Helicopter Rescue.
The TV programme will show the working day of Flight Lieutenant Wales and some of the missions that he is called out on.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, as well as Prince Harry flew to Arosa, Switzerland this weekend to attend the wedding of Olympic dressage champion Laura Bechtolsheimer and professional polo player Mark Tomlinson, reports World News 365 on 3 March 2013. The report follows.
The Duchess of Cambridge wore a cream coat with brown fur trim over a MaxMara dress. She completed her look with a brown hat by Lock & Co, a clutch and heels by Emmy and drop-pearl earrings.

The first official painted portrait of The Duchess of Cambridge has been commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery, where it was unveiled on Friday 11 January 2013.
The National Portrait Gallery's painting of its Patron was commissioned with the support of Sir Hugh Leggatt, in memory of Sir Denis Mahon, through the Art Fund.
