FURTHER DETAILS ON THE WEDDING OF HRH THE PRINCE OF WALES AND MRS CAMILLA PARKER BOWLES

MUSIC FOR THE SERVICE OF PRAYER AND DEDICATION, ST GEORGE'S CHAPEL, WINDSOR, 8TH APRIL 2005

A combination of choral and orchestral music will be played during the Service of Prayer and Dedication at St George's Chapel, Windsor.

The music, which has been chosen by HRH The Prince of Wales and Mrs Parker Bowles, includes some of their favourite pieces such as Bach's Cantata "Nun Komm der Heiden Heiland" and excerpts from Handel's Water Music.

Among the musicians performing at the Service are members of the Philharmonia Orchestra, of which The Prince of Wales is Patron, and the St George's Chapel Choir. Founded in 1348, the Chapel Choir is made up of 23 boy choristers (all pupils from St George's School situated in the Castle grounds) and 12 Lay clerks singing alto, tenor and bass. The choir sings regularly in the presence of The Queen and other members of the Royal Family, and often tours abroad.

Republicans Tried This Stunt Before - And It Failed Print E-mail
Written by Professor David Flint AM
Monday, 28 March 2005

They are at it again. Instead of defending the Mark Latham endorsed plan to change our constitution, the republican movement prefers the distraction of making unwarranted personal attacks on members of the Royal Family. It did not get them anywhere in 1999, and it will not get them anywhere today.

Royal Marriage, Republican Myth Print E-mail
Written by Professor David Flint AM
Sunday, 27 March 2005

One of the low points of the 1999 camaign was the republican mantra that a No vote was a vote for King Charles and Queen Camilla. After their landslide loss, you would have thought that the Australian Republican Movement would have realized that gutter tactics do not work. The constitutional monarchists could have campaigned in 1999 on the standing ,respect and popularity of The Queen . We did not . We restricted our campaign to constitutional issues. The ARM has learned nothing from our example.

The opinion provided to the British Minister for Constitutional Affairs that on the accession of Charles, his marriage would be recognized has thrown Australia's republicans into paroxysms of delight. Any objective observer would have realized that the Minister was only stating the obvious. It is accepted that on marriage a wife may style herself, say Mrs Jack Jones, although many today do not. If she is married to a knight, she may style herself Lady X - but some do not, including the Governor of New South Wales. Males do not do this, reflecting the previous legal inequality between the sexes.

Times have changed, but all the Minister was saying was that on Charles accession, his marriage would be recognized and his wife could use the title Queen Consort. This is a courtesy title, and should not be confused with the title Queen Regnant, the reigning or actual Queen, as Elizabeth II is.

The Contradictions Of A Republican Royal Watcher Print E-mail
Written by Professor David Flint AM
Saturday, 26 March 2005

Crikey.com.au has just published another contribution from Barry Everingham, the republican royal watcher whose opinions and stories appear regularly in the press.

Mr Everingham is entitled to his republican views, but they do stand strangely with his fascination for all things monarchical. As a psychologist said , seeing the strange behaviour of Basil Fawlty with Manuel, there is a thesis there!

Poll - Monarchy Will Continue To Be Relevant Print E-mail

Office of the Press Secretary

National Office, Sydney Australia

“Seventy five percent say the monarchy can remain relevant in Australia beyond the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. That is the opinion of those who replied to the telephone poll in the Sydney Daily Telegraph on 25 March. One hundred and fourteen people responded, which is not large, particularly when you consider that the Daily Telegraph enjoys the highest circulation of any newspaper in Sydney” said Professor David Flint, National Convenor of Australians for Constitutional Monarchy.

Republican Establishment Invades Country Press - Protest Print E-mail
Written by Professor David Flint AM
Friday, 25 March 2005

You might have thought that with the clear advantages the republican establishment have with the elite media, they would not invade the letters columns of newspapers which are there for country people, those who live in what is now called rural and regional Australia. Apparently this is not so, according to this understandably vigorous protest in the Border Daily Mail on 23 March, 2005:

Fooled enough of the time

Sir,

To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln, You can fool some of the people all of the time or all of the people some of the time but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.

Modern information technology has added a final clause to that statement and that is, ‘yet you only need to fool enough of the people enough of the time’. Mike O’Shaughnessy (The Border Mail, February 28) replied to an earlier letter of mine about the pitfalls of media monitoring companies and how groups with more money than valid argument can pervert the course of local public perception by injecting a volume of perceived ‘local’ discussion far in excess of actual local support.
